Rebecca Hsin
Co-founder
Rebecca is currently going into her first year at the University of British Columbia for a Bachelor’s of Science. As an aspiring cardiothoracic or neurosurgeon, she hopes to enrol into medical school after undergrad. Outside of SCY, you can find her playing the piano, obsessing over her dog, hiking, or working as a Licensed Emergency Medical Responder.
Alpha Hui
Co-founder
Alpha is a first-year student at Simon Fraser University and will be pursuing a degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. She is interested in pursuing MBB and microbiology research in the future. Some of her hobbies include knitting, tending to her houseplants, and snowboarding. Within SCY, Alpha is responsible for all visual content, including this website!

Aashka Dasgupta
Head of Social Media
Aashka is a senior at Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas. Though she is not entirely sure which field of medicine she wants to pursue, her main goal with her future career is to help people and help provide underprivileged people access to healthcare. She is an avid member and interp captain of her school debate team and involved in several other clubs and organizations in her school and community. She is also trained in Indian Classical Music and has a degree in the subject.

Djaka Cherif
Head of Research
Djaka is the Head of Research at Science Connecting Youth. Currently, she is a second-year student at McMaster University and is studying biology. Some of her interests are writing, reading, baking, traveling, and volunteering.

Alaire Chen
Head of Outreach
Alaire is a senior at Heritage Woods Secondary in Port Moody, BC. She intends to pursue a medical doctorate after undergrad as she enjoys being an executive First Responder at her school’s club and loves the study of anatomy and physiology. She relaxes by taking daily nature walks, streaming podcasts, swimming, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.

Maya Dusangh
Outreach Coordinator
Maya is currently going into grade 10 at Southridge School. She is interested in pursuing a career in health sciences because she has a deep passion for anatomy and physiology and she wants to help others in her career pathway. Outside of SCY, Maya can be found leading the Environmental Club at her school, or playing club volleyball.

Sahanah Gill
Researcher/Writer
Sahanah is currently in grade 11 at Burnaby North Secondary School and is interested in pursuing a career in medicine as either a cardiothoracic surgeon or gastroenterologist. Apart from being a member of SCY, she is also involved in other organizations and runs a club within her school that supports local hospitals. Some of her interests include reading, writing, cooking, and volunteering.

Katherine Lyapin
Social Media Engagement Coordinator
Djaka is the Head of Research at Science Connecting Youth. Currently, she is a student at McMaster University. She intends to major in either biochemistry or neuroscience. Some of her interests are writing, reading, baking, traveling, and volunteering.
